Our Excursions
The Saloum Delta National Park — more commonly known as Sine Saloum — is one of Senegal’s most beautiful and unique regions. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and protected since 2011, the delta offers a subtle balance between people and nature.
It’s home to an extraordinary range of bird species (herons, pelicans, cormorants, flamingos, and more), as well as land animals such as warthogs, hyenas, monkeys, duikers and jackals. But it’s also a haven for marine life. Large mammals like dolphins and manatees glide through its waters, while the incredible diversity of fish, shellfish, and crustaceans has fed and shaped the region for generations.
Shell gathering, practised for centuries, has even formed large shell mounds that help stabilise the land and preserve biodiversity — though this balance remains fragile. Today, tourism is becoming an important avenue of sustainable development in the park, but fishing remains by far the main activity for local communities.
With its 52 islands, 180,000 hectares, and dense vegetation, exploring the full Sine Saloum and its ecosystem takes time — and a pirogue. Our one-day excursion gives you a first taste of the delta: its birds, mangroves, and the traditional village of Mar Lodj. Multi-day bivouac trips allow you to venture further: watch fishermen arrive in Djifer with its colourful fleet of pirogues, hike untrodden mangrove paths untouched by tourism, track wild warthogs, cross baobab forests, meet traditional boat builders, and more.
Feel free to browse through the different excursion pages to find a programme that suits you — or contact us to create a custom trip, depending on your available time and what’s possible with our pirogue.
